Mainland students applying for undergraduate programmes in Hong Kong generally follow one of two routes: the Gaokao route or the international curriculum route.
1. The Gaokao route
The main criteria are Gaokao scores and the English subject score. Some universities arrange interviews, and interview performance also counts towards admission. Requirements vary by university, so check the admission guidelines of each target university item by item.
2. The international curriculum route
Apply with international curriculum results such as A-Level, IB or AP. Some universities also require language test scores and an interview.
3. What to prepare in advance
It is advisable to settle your target universities and programmes early, prepare documents such as a personal statement and recommendation letters, and track each university's application opening and closing dates. University requirements may be adjusted each year — please refer to official announcements.
